Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Overshadowed by COD: Modern Warfare Remastered

Another year, another Call of Duty.  On Friday, November 4, 2016, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will launch globally and you can be sure there will be plenty of people excited for the midnight release. I have to admit I’ve queued up several times to make sure I’m one of the first to get my hands on COD. Infinite Warfare is going to take the franchise and travel beyond the boundaries of the Earth, so I guess we’ll be playing all sorts of unique multiplayer maps set in weird and wonderful locations in the solar system.

By all accounts, Infinity Ward wants to give us an old school all-out war in a brand new setting. Minimal loading times can be expected and the campaign will take us seamlessly from on the ground combat to piloting space fighters at high speed.  I’m looking forward to learning more about what’s to come (and hoping it will be playable at EGX in September), but in all honesty, this isn’t the announcement that’s got my heart pumping.

What I am unbelievably hyped for is the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. This is going to be EPIC! Raven Software have decided to honour the heritage of Call of Duty and releasing the remastered original for the PS4, PC and Xbox One.  The remastered Modern Warfare will be available with the Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition and Digital Edition, the Legacy Pro Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition. It’s going to be so good! I’ve already hooked up my somewhat abandoned but still loved Xbox 360 (RIP) and loaded up Modern Warfare. It’s great to see so many people still there and the maps I played yesterday were all hacker free, yes! I cannot wait to play with current generation visuals, the textures, details and lighting.

Call of Duty has lost a lot of its original charm as far as I’m concerned. It felt historical; it was genuine and gave me an insight into what war was. What the COD franchise has been focused on in recent years is predicting the future of combat and warfare. While it’s fun to go a little sci-fi it’s not really what I enjoy from the franchise. The news of the remaster is certainly more appealing to me, for the time being at least.  Speak to me in a month or so and see how I feel then…Hype is contagious.
