My loyal companion Floyd turns 11 this year. He’s the most amazing dog I’ve ever known, clever, patient (you should see him with kittens, he’s amazing!), loving and we all love him to bits. Sadly his age is really beginning to show now. He’s been going grey for a while but he now has arthritis and doesn’t seem as steady on his feet as he once was. We have shorter walks and I am currently shopping for a new bed for him to have in our new home as we’re getting rid of his sofa (yes, he has a two-seater sofa as a bed right now). I am scared of losing him to old age, but we could have another 4 or 5 years yet, maybe even longer, so I am trying not to dwell on it.
I was having a nose on Twitter not too long ago and I noticed someone mention Hand on Heart Jewellery. They had a charm made with paw prints on and it looked amazing, so I decided that I HAD to have one made with Floyd’s paw print to celebrate our 11th year together. I was sent a package that included everything I needed to make the paw print, had his nails clipped and got down to it. I’m not going to lie, Floyd didn’t much like having his paw print done, but we managed. I covered the A4 page with as many paw prints as I could fit on and sent them off.
I was worried that the prints would be useless but there was no need for concern. They tidied up all the bits of hair and were left with the PERFECT print.
Hand on Heart Jewellery then worked their magic. What you end up with is the print on beautiful piece of silver jewellery (there are different styles to choose from). I chose the pet print charm necklace and decided to have the year and his age engraved on the back so I’ll always remember when I had it made.
This is such a special piece, beautifully made. Sadly the clasp on the necklace is a bit loose, but I have contacted Hand on Heart Jewellery to let them know so hopefully they’ll replace it or get it fixed for me. Don’t let that put you off though, I can’t fault anything else, it’s got a good weight to it and once I wear it I am never going to take it off.
[UPDATE] I was sent the replacement necklace through the day after I published this article – it’s perfect and I’ve worn my necklace each and every day since then! Excellent customer service guys 🙂
The packaging is beautiful too, it would certainly make the perfect gift. Go and have a look at the website as they do hand and footprint jewellery too, something I will certainly be adding to my wish list in the future (hint hint G).

I LOVE this! I wish I’d heard of them a year ago so I could have got something with a print by my Tilly before she died.
Beautiful.

Awh this is such a lovely idea, and it looks beautiful. I hope that you have many years left with Floyd, please don’t dwell on his illness right now! x
