It’s Hoodie Season! The Idle Man
Hoodies are a staple in our fashion diet. They’re comfortable, cosy, practical, warm and they can pretty much be worn all year round in the UK. I will wear hoodies possible 75% of the time and if you’re my boyfriend, 60% of that time I’ll actually be wearing YOUR hoodie. It’s just a thing that needs to be gotten used to. Thankfully, Mr only child G manages to accept this condition of our relationship. Why am I telling you this? When The Idle Man offered to send G some clothes to check out I immediately hopped on their website and began adding hoodies to the basket. Selfish? Yeah a little bit, but G loves a good hood as much as I do and they only sell men’s clothes, so what’s a gal to do?
Who is The Idle Man?
The Idle Man sells menswear, they have their own branded goods along with some well-known brand names. Their own brand is what we ordered as they’re made in the same factories as larger brands but sold at a cheaper price thanks to direct selling online. This gives the impression that the hoods are high quality so I really wanted to see if that was the case. And truthfully, it is the case. All three of the hoods are decent. The Idle Man also like to focus more on style than on fashion – everything on the site is going to deliver a quality look that won’t die out in a few weeks. Buy the classics, buy a trend piece and you have a look that won’t fail to make you feel good.
The classic pink sweatshirt is super soft on the inside and generous in sizing. The large was plenty big enough for G and very big on me, something that I adore in a hoodie. That’s probably why I always
steal wear G’s as I do like to be fully enveloped in a soft jumper.
The black Borg overhead hoodie was also large but it felt a lot smaller. I’d go as far as to recommend ordering a size up. It’s comfortable to wear and it does fit in perfectly with the colder weather as it makes you feel warm just by looking at it. The air does move through the fabric so on a cold winter’s day a jacket will be needed, but it’s fine as a standalone on sunny autumn days.
I picked the classic zip-through hoodie for G as it reminds me of The Son’s of Anarchy. I can just see Jax throwing this on with his jeans and sneakers and looking almost as handsome as G. It’s a must-have piece that goes with pretty much anything.
The one thing G received all for himself was the weave belt. G’s old belt is probably older than he is, it’s a classic leather look that was once his dad’s. Finally, G found a belt that suited him perfectly. To his complete surprise, the weave belt is somewhat elasticated and it has no belt holes (belts have moved on a fair bit since his old belt was crafted, probably by hand). It’s everything you could want in a belt, especially if your waist doesn’t always remain the same size.
Affordable Brands for the Win
Finding new brands is always a positive thing. They have a great collection of classic essentials to choose from and the price is excellent. However, they also source out some of the best pieces from brands such as Dr Martens, Levis, and Nudie. I recently purchased my very first pair of Doc’s (black Pascal’s that are now almost broken in) and I’m going to try to sway G over to them in time. A personal styling service is also provided by The Idle Man, for free! I definitely recommend trying them out especially if you’re stuck in a rut.
Overall, the cost of the products and the quality cannot be frowned upon. Mixing more affordable pieces with one or two more expensive brands is a great way of getting the look without breaking the bank. Something we all need to do in this day and age. All I hope is that The Idle Man will expand to include the idle woman and send me a few items in the future – winky face!
