Gousto Box Review – Are Food Boxes Worth It?
If you know me even just a bit you’ll know that I hate cooking. It’s the worst part of being a grown up in my opinion. I find it boring, stressful and a complete inconvenience. I can cook, not a lot of things but I know the basics. I would love to LOVE cooking and really get into food, but I can’t see it happening just yet. When I was asked if I’d like a Gousto box I was actually pretty excited. Anything that would make cooking pleasurable can only be a good thing in my eyes. Both G and I were surprisingly up for cooking together so I accepted and gave it a whirl.
I unbox my first Gousto box in the video below and gave my opinions at the end. Have a watch, but if you’re not into videos continue reading as I’ll share my thoughts with you here too.
Here are some of the top points I’d like to make.
- Everything was fresh and in tip-top condition.
- The meat and eggs were British, only the leaves were from Europe (not sure about the tomato, onion or the condiments).
- Recipes are really well presented and easy to follow.
- You receive everything you need for the recipe apart from things like cooking oil and salt.
- Choosing the recipes online is easy but there wasn’t too much choice for picky eaters.
I was very impressed with the box and I would continue using Gousto, if it was financially possible. Sadly, it’s not. Both G and I cooked together (for the first time EVER!) and it was highly satisfying cooking from scratch. We knew what was on the plate and we ate well. The con of Gousto is that it costs a lot of money so it’s not for everyone.
I do think it’s a great service and I wish it was possible for us to use. There is value in the boxes as it makes life a lot easier, especially if you don’t have cooking skills. I see it as a great way of learning new skills, eating new and more exciting foods and trying foods you might not usually eat. If you think about it as just a food delivery service you will be disappointed and feel ripped off. If you see it for all the benefits it provides you will enjoy it and won’t mind spending out. It basically depends on what camp you’re in.
