NX Launch Date Announced and Zelda Moved to Match
Nintendo have announced that their next system, code-named NX, will be released in March 2017. Exciting news, but even as a Nintendo fan I have to admit I’m currently not expecting too much. The console will need to be forward thinking for me to rush out and place a pre-order. Time will tell what’s to come, but I am certainly hoping that Nintendo will finally fully embrace online gaming, making it easier to connect with others and share online. Many of us hoped that NX would be unveiled at this years’ E3, but sadly that’s not the case. Boo! Instead, NX will be revealed later this year.
In other Nintendo news, The Legend of Zelda’s latest instalment is now has been scheduled to launch with the NX. That means we have to wait until March 2017 for this long-awaited title too. Not good news, but it will still be released on the Wii U, so that’s something for those who don’t want to spend out on the NX on launch. We’ll learn more about the game at E3 though as it’s going to be the focus on their presence in LA in June. The Wii U version is going to be playable on the show floor and it’s also going to be the only playable game they have.
Finally, and this is some good news, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem ‘based apps’ are soon to be released on mobiles. There is little news as yet, but these apps are coming in the autumn and this is a positive sign that Nintendo is finally prepared to embrace online gaming and all it has to offer. Let’s just hope they aren’t heavily focused on in-game purchases. These apps follow the success of Miitomo, which has now reached 10 million users worldwide.
More news is being announced very soon, so I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled and keep you informed. Perhaps I’ll blow the dust off my Wii U tonight and have a play too.
